Catalan Pastry Takes the Spotlight as Barcelona’s Pastry School Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

Pastry chefs, students, teachers, and families from pastry guilds across Catalonia gathered this Monday at the Born Cultural Centre for a new edition of the Great Gala of Catalan Pastry. This annual event coincided with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Barcelona Pastry Guild School (EPGB).

The gala featured awards in various categories and highlighted the value of artisanal pastry as one of the cornerstones of Catalan gastronomic culture. Hosted by Eloi Vila, the event revisited the fifty-year history of the EPGB, from its founding in 1975 to the present day.

Organized by the pastry guilds of Barcelona and Girona, the gala honoured a range of professionals and notable figures in the trade. Among the attendees were renowned names such as chocolatier Lluc Crusellas, chef Jordi Roca, chef Martina Puigvert, Disfrutar’s Oriol Castro, and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Òscar Ordeig.

The evening concluded with a final cocktail featuring luxury gastronomic stations and extraordinary desserts prepared by some of the very pastry chefs who were recognised during the celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary.
