THE SOUL OF POPULAR CULTURE

The documentary series Rauxa is a collective journey, an immersion in Catalan popular culture that portrays the day-to-day life and the great civic celebrations that make up groups and entities from all over Catalonia. The format, available on the 3Cat platform, is proof that tradition is not only preserved, but kept alive, evolves and connects generations, neighbourhoods and territories.

With a warm and intimate approach, Rauxa offers a perspective that goes beyond the spectacle: it aims to capture the human and communal essence of our festivals. Without giving up the visual impact of the major events it portrays, the series focuses on shared emotions, the passion of its participants, and the living force of a culture that is constantly reinventing itself. Tradition, passion and community merge in a journey to the heart of the festivities that define our identity.

FIVE VIBRANT CHAPTERS

Devils, giants, dancers, singers and shepherds are the stars of this season.

In the first episode, titled “Balleu ben fort, diables” (Dance with vigour, devils), we accompany the members of the Ball de Diables of Cervera during the Aquelarre, a unique experience of fire, body, and passion that represents a true challenge. In the second episode, “Gegants” (Giants) we discover the world of giants through stories of personal and communal triumph and vindication, and we experience firsthand the excitement of carrying the giants during the Mercè festivities.

In the third instalment, titled “Dansaires” (Dancers), the dancers from the Joaquim Ruyra and Maragall groups introduce us to traditional Catalan dance; at the same time, they reveal the challenge of performing it on a large stage like that of the Fira Mediterrània. The fourth chapter is called “Caçadors de cançons” (Song Hunters) and is set at the Càntut festival, dedicated to the song of oral tradition. An experience that bridges the gap between grandparents and grandchildren, from anonymous singers to music bands.

The episode that closes the season, “Les pastoretes i els pastorets” (The shepherdesses and the shepherds), stars the members of the theatre group La Farsa. The work Els Pastorets is, without doubt, one of the most genuine manifestations of our culture, and this group faces the challenge of adapting the work to modern times while respecting tradition.
